About FACT

OUR VISION
The Foundation for Accountability & Civic Trust (FACT) is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to promoting accountability, ethics, and transparency in government and civic arenas by hanging a lantern over public officials who put their own interests over the interests of the public good.
FACT is a group of citizens who are committed to exposing unethical behavior, changing the culture of politics, and restoring faith in our public officials. We believe that openness and transparency is vital to achieving this goal. A democracy provides its citizens with the tools and resources to ensure that public servants are held accountable, and we utilize these to investigate and bring unethical conduct to light.
FACT actively pursues openness, accountability, and ethical conduct across the United States using:
-
Legal process and litigation.
-
State and federal open records requests.
-
Ethics complaints.
-
Internal Revenue Service complaints.
-
Federal Election Commission complaints.
-
Requests for investigation by state and federal agencies.
We are dedicated to exposing unethical behavior and making sure it receives the attention it deserves. From completing a thorough investigation to employing an aggressive television, print, and social media strategy, FACT will not simply hope the truth comes out—we will ensure it does.
OUR MISSION
The mission of FACT is simple: To strengthen our democracy by demanding the truth.

Executive Director
FACT is led by Executive Director Matthew G. Whitaker, a former U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Iowa. The organization is based in Washington, D.C.
