Foundation for Accountability and Civic Trust (FACT) Executive Director Matthew G. Whitaker today called on presidential candidate Hillary Clinton to immediately disclose all of her campaign’s spending to date. “Secretary Clinton has spent months organizing a campaign in secret and free from public disclosure,” Whitaker said. “In the interest of transparency Secretary Clinton should immediately disclose the untold sums of money she has spent building her campaign organization so far.”
In recent months, Clinton has hired campaign staff, signed a lease for 80,000 square feet of office space in a Brooklyn, NY, high-rise, and conducted opposition research on herself to vet her candidacy for president. All of this campaign activity has been conducted in secret without any disclosure. Because of the secrecy of Clinton’s campaign, American voters have no idea what money Clinton has used to startup her campaign and where that money has gone.
“Not only do we not know how Secretary Clinton’s campaign operated before she announced her candidacy, we also have no idea how she is funding the rollout of her campaign in the coming days,” Whitaker said.
According to news reports, Clinton plans to fly to Iowa this week to meet in person with voters. However, without a formal campaign organization, it is not clear how, or with whom, Clinton has made such travel arrangements.
