Conservative Group Accuses Clinton Campaign Of Illegally Interacting With PAC

A conservative group is asking the Federal Election Commission to consider whether Hillary Clinton’s campaign violated campaign finance law by interacting with Ready for Hillary, a political action committee formed to help lay the ground work for the former secretary of state’s campaign.
The Foundation for Accountability and Civic Trust (FACT), directed by former U.S. Attorney Matthew G. Whitaker, asked the FEC this week to consider published reports indicating that Clinton’s campaign received Ready for Hillary’s email list. The news of the email list was first reported by Politico.
FACT says this latest action supports its earlier FEC complaint, filed in April 2015, alleging interactions between Clinton’s campaign and Ready for Hillary.
Federal law prohibits a candidate from coordinating in some ways with PACs.
“If this type of behavior is permitted to occur, a candidate could build an entire campaign operation using unlimited contributions, all while choosing when to be governed by federal election law,” Whitaker said. “This creates an unfair advantage over candidates who follow the letter of the law.”
Clinton’s campaign did not immediately return a request for comment.
